Integrative Medical Center Founder:
Dr. Douglas Brodie
NOTE:
In winter of 2005, Reno Integrative Medical Center lost a dear friend
when Dr. Douglas Brodie passed away (1925-2005). As an author, visionary
and world renowned trailblazer in the field of medicione, Dr. Brodie's
passion and commitment changed the world forever by opening up exciting
new doorways for alternative approaches to healing.
The staff of Reno Integrative Medical Center is very grateful for Dr.
Brodie's special talent as a teacher and his willingness to freely share
his wisdom and inspiration with the next generation of caregivers. We
want you to know that we are committed to carrying forward Dr. Brodie's
legacy of innovative health care for many years to come.
Dr. Brodie's Books
Dr. Brodie provided alternative and integrative care
to cancer patients, working with several enlightened oncologists to
provide the best possible combination of therapies. His innovative treatments
utilized many natural substances, including herbal preparations, homeopathics,
intravenous vitamins and minerals, biological response modifiers, and
a number of non-toxic materials, designed to activate and enhance the
immune system. These methodologies are often used in combination with
conventional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation,
when these are appropriate. It has been found that such combinations
virtually always reduce the adverse side effects of traditional therapies.
Dr. Brodie is the author of Cancer and Common Sense, Combining Science
and Nature to Control Cancer, published by Winning Publications,
1997.
Dr. Brodie has co-authored a chapter in the book, Definitive Guide
to Cancer, published by Future Med. Publishing, 1997.
Dr. Brodie began his college education at St. Mary's College in Winona,
Minnesota and completed his premedical requirements at the University
of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
He attended the University of Michigan Medical School, graduating with
a Medical Doctorate degree.
Following graduation, Dr. Brodie served one year of internship training
at Minneapolis General Hospital, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Dr. Brodie then served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force for two
years. He served as Flight Surgeon after graduating from the Air University,
School of Aviation Medicine, Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
Following his discharge from the military, he began medical residency
training at the University of California Hospital in San Francisco,
California, after one year of training at this institution, he continued
as resident in medicine at Highland-Alameda County Hospital in Oakland,
California, completing three years of residency training in internal
medicine, the last year of which was in the capacity of Chief Medical
Resident.
After completion of residency training, Dr. Brodie began private practice
in association with Dr. Fletcher Taylor, specialist in internal medicine,
in Oakland, California. In connection with his practice in the Oakland
community, Dr. Brodie was a member of the hospital staffs of Samuel
Merritt Hospital, Peralta Hospital, and Providence Hospital in Oakland,
as well as Herrick Hospital in Berkeley. After two year's tutelage under
Dr. Taylor, Dr. Brodie entered solo practice in nearby Walnut Creek,
California. In this capacity he was a staff member of the Concord Community
Hospital in Concord, California.
Dr. Brodie moved to the Truckee-North Tahoe area, forming a multi-specialty
group with several other physicians, called the Truckee Tahoe Medical
Group. For several years he was a member of the hospital staff of the
Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, California. The Medical Group maintained
offices in Tahoe City, Squaw Valley and Truckee, California.
After several years with the association, he changed his status from
group practice to solo practice, becoming more oriented toward preventive
and non-toxic therapies. In 1972, he began managing cancer patients
with alternative and nutritional methodologies. Over the next few years
he developed several new and unique procedures for enhancing the immune
systems in depleted cancer patients and for potentiating conventional
chemotherapy. Dr. Brodie also found during this period of his practice
that his methods offered substantial protection against the toxic affects
of chemotherapy. In 1976, he entered into a part-time association with
Dr. John Richardson, a well-known pioneer in the field of alternative
non-toxic methods in the management of cancer.
As a result of his stand on medical freedom and alternative treatment,
Dr. Brodie then became a target of the California Medical Board, and
like Dr. Richardson, attempts were made to attack his license as well.
Both doctors were severely criticized by most physicians and other medical
professionals for seeking more effective and more humane methods of
dealing with the dread disease called cancer. After three attacks on
his California medical license, including two trials, Dr. Brodie was
finally exonerated, and his license remained intact.
However, because of the political climate in California at that time,
he decided to move his practice to Nevada. In 1980, Dr. Brodie moved
his practice to Incline Village, Nevada on the north shore of Lake Tahoe.
There, he continued to provide alternative care to cancer patients along
with some conventional care as well.
In 1983, Dr. Brodie was appointed by then-Governor Richard Bryan to
serve on the newly formed Board of Homeopathic Medical Examiners for
the state of Nevada. This was the first-ever Homeopathic board established
by the Nevada Legislature, and the second in the nation. Dr. Brodie
served as Vice President of this board. He continued to be licensed
to practice homeopathy in this state until the time of his death and
continued to be licensed in allopathic (MD) medicine as well.
